The 31-year-old had a bogey-free round to finish at 17 under, ahead of Rickie Fowler, who shot a 66, and world number one Luke Donald, also round in 66.

Rory McIlroy carded a 67 to share sixth at 10 under, Lee Westwood was one more back after a fine 65 and Scot Martin Laird's 72 left him joint 11th.

Tiger Woods was wayward off the tee but tied for 37th at one over after a 70.

"I can talk about Steve now and not Tiger," Scott said to laughter, alluding to the countless times he and other players have been asked about Woods. "I'm sure there are a lot of other golfers who wouldn't mind that, either."

The latest chapter in the endless saga involving Woods took away from a premier performance by Scott, who didn't make a bogey over his last 26 holes and couldn't afford to with 19-year-old Ryo Ishikawa giving him all he could handle.

"It's the greatest week of my life caddying and I sincerely mean that," said Williams, who has 145 wins to his credit, including 13 majors with Woods. In a post-round meeting with a gaggle of reporters, Williams said he is still angry and upset he was fired by Woods, and said he was let go with a phone call, not in a face-to-face meeting, as Woods said. "The last two years have been very difficult for myself and my family, and I sort of believe in destiny sometimes. I had no doubt in my mind this morning on the range, Adam had it so good on the range, I knew it was our day.

"It's the most satisfying win I've ever had, there's no two ways about it."

Scott was pretty satisfied with his performance. The overnight leader by one, Scott was playing with Ryo Ishikawa, 19, and had Rickie Fowler, 22, Jason Day, 23, and Keegan Bradley, 25, on his heels. But with birdies on holes 10, 12 and 14, and a huge par save on the 15th, Scott opened up a four-shot lead. The cushion was more than enough as he finished four shots clear of Fowler and world No. 1 Luke Donald— and became the first player using a long putter to win a WGC event. Day and Ishikawa finished in a tie for fourth.
