A Few Golf Swing Details To Consider When Making Shots On and Around The Green

A very important part of the game of golf is the short game. This involves making shots on and around the green. After you make your approach shot you are often left with a sizable put to make. Sometimes you will miss the green and land in a sand trap. Knowing how to make these puts or correctly make a shot of a sand trap will greatly improve your golf score.

One of the more important aspects of putting is deciding what the line will be. The line to hole is not always straight. When you address the ball with your putter you must determine the correct line to the hole. This requires that your alignment of your body be correct. This can be accomplished by ensuring that the face of the putter is square with the intended line of your put. Your shoulder and hips should also be pointing to the intended target. The intended target will not always be the hole. Often there is a break in the green which will require you to aim the putter to the left or right of the hole. You will have to make the judgement as to how far left or right you must aim the ball. This takes practice and experience.

Once you have determined on the correct line that ball will take and properly addressed it, you can concentrate on making the actual shot. As you make your put, the only thing you should be thinking about is how hard you are required to hit the ball. How far you hit the ball will be determined by how much you take your putter back during your backswing. Always make your shot so that it will roll about one foot past the cup, if you miss. If you miss, take note of the line the ball takes as it rolls by the cup. This will give you the proper line for the next put. When you execute you golf swing the only movements you make should be in your shoulders and arms. Remember to keep the front of your leading hand square to the intended line of the put, throughout the entire golf swing.

Making a shot out of the sand trap is very different then making a put. When addressing the golf ball in the sand trap open the blade of your sand wedge. The blade should be aimed about five feet to right of the flag stick. Your stance should be open. Your shoulder and feet should be aligned together and aiming about five feet the left of the flag stick. When you make impact with the ball, the blade of your club should hit behind the ball and cut through the sand underneath it. Your follow through should be without any hesitation.

Learning the skills to play a good short game will take some time. You will need to practice and receive some advice from reputable golf swing resources. The internet has a number of useful golf swing reviews which are free. Paying for golf lessons might also be helpful.
